MY STORY

Ileana Calderón Martell obtained her bachelor's degree in Freshwater & Marine biology from Gannon University, with a concentration in pre-veterinary, and biology studies. During this time Ileana was part of  McNair Research Scholars Program and took part in many investigations done in Lake Erie like “Estimating Growth Rates of Yellow Perch (Perca flavescens) from Lake Erie Using a cost-effective method of processing otoliths. She participated in SIGMA XI Conference, The Regional Science Consortium at the Tom Ridge Center, PA and National McNair Scholars at UCLA, CA. After graduation, Ms. Calderon Martell joined the Sociedad Ambiente Marino in August 2020 and has participated in some of the society's ongoing research, monitoring, and mitigation projects. Currently, Ileana is pursuing a masters degree in biology in the University of Puerto Rico. Ileana has an open water scuba diving and navigation licence. Ileana’s research interests are in wildlife biology, ichthyology, and marine ecology.
